A Virtual Trip to Scotland

International School Partnership St Leonards, Fife, St Andrews, Scotland – Akademisches Gymnasium Salzburg

Everyone in our class was excited big way last Wednesday late afternoon. We came back in to school for an extra lesson of English and German. Not just any lesson! We were going to see and talk for the first time to students from our new partner school in St Leonards, Fife, St Andrews, Scotland.

Our English teacher Mr Lutsch had built up many technical things, like cameras, microphones and so on, to make sure everything would work. Before the video conference started our teachers, Mrs Erhart, Mr Lutsch and Mr Schöppl, who are all involved in the project, briefed us, so we would not mess up to badly. When the meeting started, we went in front of the camera and introduced ourselves in German. Then the students from St Leonards had prepared questions to ask us in German. We took turns, so that everybody got a chance to talk a few times. Some questions were quite funny and made us all laugh! – ‘Was magst du lieber? Xbox oder PlayStation?’ We all had to laugh at this, and this made a great atmosphere. Sometimes we asked their questions back in German.

Afterwards we switched the conversation to English. As we had not prepared questions beforehand, we just asked random questions like, what their hobbies were, and about their school. Sometimes technical issues, like the sound and video quality, asl well as talking through a face masks, made it hard to understand each other. This was sometimes awkward, but it did not matter at all, because we all enjoyed the meeting and cannot wait for our next video chat in two weeks’ time.

The British Ambassador to Austria has  sent us a video message. Why don’t you look and find out what he says? Please click here:
