Die 6a war vom 7.-12. April mit Prof. Julia Landa und Prof. Ingo Rath in Brüssel. Als Belohnung für den 2. Platz beim Wettbewerb RapYourEU4Peace mit dem Video Heartfelt Wish standen in Brüssel auf dem Programm:

Europäische Kommission
We, the students of the 6a class, made our way to Brussels to learn about the EU since it is the capital of the European Union. We had already dealt a lot with this topic as we took part in the competition “Rap your EU for peace” (Land Salzburg) in autumn.
We met up at the train station of Salzburg and so our journey to Brussels began. At first our expectations were low because our program looked boring, but as time went on, we were overwhelmed by the city. We tried the authentic food and drinks of Belgium and visited a chocolate museum since Belgian chocolate is quite famous. The “Grand-place” and all the other sights like the “Manneken Pis” were shown to us by a very likeable guide called Maggie. She also explained to us that Belgium is a country that welcomes everyone without any stereotypes regarding their race, religion, color or sexual orientation – no wonder that Brussels is the capital of the EU! That’s why I think the motto of the EU fits very well: “United in diversity”.
The visits to the Museum of European History and the “Ständige Vertretung Österreichs“ were both very informative and interesting. Besides, meeting the formal governor of Salzburg, Franz Schausberger, was very thrilling. He explained to us that the EU is one big family and we have our ups and downs but we are just humans and we will push through all the problems together. He is a very humble and nice person, which we could experience in our discussion with him. The next day we went to the European Parliament and met the politician Claudia Schmidt. She also informed us about the EU and the Parliament. Talking to these politicians we noticed that every single one of them is already tired of the Brexit and all the problems that come with it.
All in all we experienced and saw a lot of new things and our knowledge about the EU has grown. This trip was a journey that will not be forgotten!

Im Europäischen Rat
Am Sonntag fuhren wir los mit dem Zug,
Und trotz 13-stündiger Fahrt, verging die Zeit wie im Flug.
Schließlich in Brüssel angekommen, war die Jugendherberge besser als gedacht,
Trotzdem bekamen wir keinen allzu langen Schlaf.
Untertags machten wir eine Führung durch die Stadt,
Dort haben wir dann auch Abendessen gehabt.
Wir besuchten viele EU Institutionen
Und führten dort mehrere Diskussionen.
„United in Diversity“ war das Motto,
Und das ist für die EU wichtiger als ein Gewinn im Lotto.
Die EU soll damit den Frieden erhalten,
Und dieses Versprechen wurde bis heute gehalten,
Egal welche Kultur und welches Land –
In der EU geben sich alle die Hand.
Doch lernten wir in Brüssel nicht nur über Politik,
Sondern bekamen auch über Menschenrechte im „House of European History“ einen Überblick.
Im Ganzen war die Woche zwar sehr anstrengend,
Doch gleichzeitig auch sehr spannend.

Grand‘ Place de Bruxelles
Nous avons passé une semaine dans une ville
Qui n’est pas du tout tranquille.
À Bruxelles, nous sommes allés à la Grand-Place
Avec l’Hôtel de Ville en face.
De plus, nous avons visité des monuments,
Les institutions européennes, comme le Parlement.
Nous y avons assisté à plusieurs présentations
Et avons reçu beaucoup d’informations.
La devise de l’UE est «Unie dans la diversité »,
Ça veut dire que tout le monde fait partie de la communauté.
Bruxelles, la belle ville, est connue pour ses bandes dessinées,
Pour les Maîtres Chocolatiers et ses beaux musées.
Heureusement, on a goûté aux spécialités de Belgique,
Le chocolat et les gaufres étaient magiques !
Après cinq jours notre voyage était terminé,
Et malheureusement, on a dû rentrer.
En général, le voyage était formidable,
Parce que l’ambiance était très agréable !

Diskussion mit Europaabgeordneter Claudia Schmidt
„United in Diversity“, zu Deutsch „In Vielfalt geeint“, ist der Leitspruch der Europäischen Union. Dieses Motto spiegelt sich in allen Mitgliedstaaten und besonders in Brüssel wider. Man nennt sie nicht umsonst die Hauptstadt Europas.
In Brüssel fällt einem besonders die Vielfalt der Einwohner und deren verschiedene Kulturen auf. Ein brisantes Detail über Belgien wurde uns während der Stadtführung verraten: In Belgien dürfen keine Zählungen über die Ethnien und Sprachen der Einwohner durchgeführt werden. Mit einem Blick kann man erkennen, dass hier viele verschiedene Bevölkerungsgruppen leben.
Neben der Schönheit und der Kultur Brüssels ist der Hauptsitz Europas stark spürbar. Außerhalb dieser EU Distrikte findet man Armut und Obdachlosigkeit. Was sehr schade ist, da die Verantwortlichen offensichtlich wegschauen, obwohl das Problem vor ihrer Haustüre liegt.

A little while ago today
We made our way to Brussels with a big “hooray”.
After the long ride the faces were tired,
But the excited expressions never expired.
The European Union embraced us with grace,
fed us with new information we could chase.
As the week grew older, so did our knowledge.
Now, we really enjoyed our little voyage,
the capital of Europe, the city of weirdness –
All of this brings Brussels to business.
The European Union is like a super-city
Filled with diversity –
It makes anything else look pity!

Das Europaparlament
An einem Sonntag Abend fing alles an
Die 6a reiste in ein fernes Land
Wir schlugen uns alle in unser Schlafgewand
Am besten war nämlich der dran der am meisten Schlaf gewann
Der Nachtzug brachte uns nach Köln zum Dom
So atemberaubend groß, keiner von uns brachte heraus einen Ton
Die Pause war aber kurz, weiter ging die Reise
Nur Munterkeit sah man bei den Schülern in keinster Weise
Nach einer sehr langen Fahrt kamen wir ans Ziel
Das Ziel war nämlich die weltbekannte Stadt, die Brüssel hieß
Zuerst gingen wir zur Ständigen Vertretung Österreichs in der EU
Doch danach wollten sich eigentlich alle ausruhen
Das änderte sich schnell als wir in der Altstadt waren
Dort auf Maggie trafen, sie führte uns durch Brüssels Straßen
Sie machte ihren Job so gut, dass wir nicht mehr müde waren
Dabei sehr viel fragten, Knaben und Damen
Am Abend hatte jedoch niemand mehr Energie
Um zu sehen dass wir schlafen wollten brauchte man keinen Detektiv
Am nächsten Tag bekamen wir von der EU neue Eindrücke
Wir konnten jedoch nicht alle Institutionen sehen aus Zeitgründen
Doch wir lernten viel und viel Wissen wurde mitgenommen
Wie hatten Touren mit Audio Guides, immer nur der Stimme folgen
Am Mittwoch sahen wir das EU Parlament
Es wurde bewacht als wäre es ein Sakrament
Am Donnerstag mussten wir leider wieder abfahren
Doch wir hatten noch sehr viel Zeit, was hieß, dass wir in die Stadt fahren
Und nach dem Essen der allerbesten Pizza der Stadt
Waren sogar die kritischsten Mägen der SchülerInnen satt
Doch wie jede gute Reise hatte auch diese ein zu frühes Ende
Nur im Gegensatz zu anderen hat sie jetzt schon den Status einer Legende

Tolerantes Brüssel
And that’s a rap, guys! After four long days of excitement, a lot of tiredness, a rough ride on the night train, some visits to the parliament, weird toilets and some fantastic food in the city of Brussels, our little adventure is coming to an end. What a funny but at the same time interesting roller coaster ride has it been? Just think of it; in less than 96 hours we have learned just as much about politics and the city of Brussels as many people do in some weeks or even months. – Well, actually we have to thank Mr. Rath and Ms. Landa for that, because without them we probably would have moved like snails. – But anyways, speaking of politics; while being in the parliament we learned a very important, if not the most important sentence to describe the EU:
“United in diversity” – And no, do not only think of the different countries as soon as you hear that sentence. I mean yes, of course it is right, however the longer I thought about this motto, the more I began to understand what it actually means. (Or at least I tried.) Just take a short look at our class: We are all weird, nice, and charismatic in our owns ways, many of us even have different cultures or special food preferences (e.g. vegetarians). And yet we get along so nicely and do you know why? – It is not only because we have such an awesome vibe around us, it is also because we accept each other. And that is the striking point! Accepting somebody even if they have a different opinion and trying to make some compromises just shows how strong a bond can be and that it why the EU works so well. The EU shows how humanity between us humans should actually work and for that all of us should be grateful.
Sadly, our wild, funny and crazy ride is over now, but on our way home it gave us some important insight. Peace out and good night!
